Week of Oct. 24

Hello Everyone!

Thanks for checking the blog! As some may know I was absent on Friday because I was out of town. I ended up having to stay home today (Monday) to stay with my son who was not feeling good. Sorry if anyone came by to chat. Please remember you can always email me at: rfisk@fusd1.org

Here are the updates for the week:

* Well you may of heard... I am pregnant! My family is very excited for this new blessing. I luckily am not due until the last week of school, or so. I will be around awhile! More info to come :).

*THANK YOU! I appreciate all the birthday wishes, cards, drawing and gifts. I sure felt special last week. I am so lucky to work with such wonderfully thoughtful students and families!

*Homework- Since I did not plan to be absent today, homework was not sent out. It will be sent tomorrow. Students were suppose to write in their agendas tonight that they needed to read for 20 minutes and get their agenda signed.

*Speaking of agendas... PLEASE make sure to read and sign your student's agenda each night! This is one of the first, easiest form of communication I have with you. With that said, your student should have something written in it each day for the most part. Many students are not filling it out like they should. I would really appreciate your support checking in.

*Halloween- As far as I know, students can wear costumes that are school appropriate, not violent and follow dress code. Please keep in mind that every student needs a change of clothes in case they need to change for some reason (distracted in class, inappropriate, Magnet Monday...etc..)

Week of Oct. 4

Hello!

Parent teacher conferences are NEXT WEEK. You should have seen a paper yesterday to instruct you on how to sign up for a time. You can use the following link- http://doodle.com/poll/4ar9dxiq9uf8ysd4

At conferences we will go over:
     -The new grading system
    - Current Benchmark test results
    -Classroom behaviors
Can't wait to see you there!

Snacks- Thank you for the donations for class snacks. We are currently out of snacks again and would love more if you can!

Mustang Gallop- Friday is the Gallop! Pledges and/or donations will be due shortly after. Our class team this year is Japan! On Friday it would be great for each student to wear a white shirt. Please send and old t-shirts that you don't mind getting cut up. We want to also wear head bands! Students will wear head bands for Taiko Drumming (inspired by Japan) so this gave the idea for the Gallop!

Week of Sept. 20

Hello!
Thank you for checking in! Below are a few updates for the week.

Fisk out- I will be absent from school THIS Thursday & Friday. We bought a house and are moving ! AHHHHH!

Homework-

  1. Grammar -This week we are focusing on grammar. The packet reviews proper and plural nouns. Student will have a short quiz on Friday based on this material. I plan to have students review on Thursday.
  2. Math- Your student had the option this week to work on the regular math paper which is a review of material we have covered this year OR the "challenge" packet which covers the material we are learning THIS week. If they have any questions they can ask all week long! Also, I encourage students to bring home the work we do in class each day so they can use it to help with the challenge packet OR just to show and discuss with you!
WATER BOTTLES- PLEASE send your student to school with a reusable water bottle. It is very hard to send students to the drinking fountain multiple times a day because they miss important information and staying hydrated will help them focus!

Agendas - Please remember to read and sign your student's agenda EACH night

NEXT WEEK--
  1.     Picture day is SEPT. 28 packets were already sent home
  2.     The Festival of Science starts on Sept. 23- if students go to an event they can receive a classroom reward dollar. If they go during the week nights they do not need to complete home work that night and are excused for 5 problems each event they attend.

Week of Aug. 29

Thank you to those of you who have logged on to read the blog!

Magnet Monday Packets- Please return magnet Monday choices by this Friday! They must be signed by an adult.

*ATTENTION*- A few students have started playing a game called "The Eraser Challenge"-- This game is not safe and can leave burns on students skin. The game has to do with seeing who can rub an eraser on their skin for the longest. The school nurse has started to see many students for this.We are doing are best to watch for the "game" but please talk to your student about the danger and issues with playing it. Students will be sent home with a red slip and/or sent to Mr. Coe for further consequences.

Homework- This week's focus is spelling and decimal review. I try to give all students time each day to finish their homework... Hopefully not much is having to come home!

Thanks for reading,
Please comment with your student's name and anything else you wish to leave in the comment box!

Week of Aug. 22

Hello!
Thank you for logging on and reading the Blog! It is my goal to have it up by each Monday (Tuesday at the latest) each week! This is my first/main form of communication with you instead of sending home paper newsletters. If you could log on weekly and comment with your student's name in the comments section each time you read it that would really help me to see who is receiving all this important updates!

*First off I would like everyone to know our Specials Schedule so that you can plan accordingly (for example- students wear tennis shoes on P.E. day)

    -Mondays:
Magnet Monday (start date TBD) 2:10-3:10

     -Tuesdays:
          P.E.   9:10-9:50
          Art   9:55- 10:35
          Music 10:40-11:20

    -Wednesdays:
         Fit kids 9:10-9:50
         Computers  9:55- 10:35
Library  10:40-11:10 (BOOKS DUE THIS DAY)

*Homework
As many of you know, homework is not a priority to me. Instead, you spending time with your student each evening IS... There is a great deal of research out "there" to support that quality time in evenings is more helpful in student achievement than homework. Many families enjoy working on a bit of weekly homework and that is why I do provide a small packet each week. Often times parents are really able to help teach a concept through working with your student.

What to expect- A homework packet will be sent home on Mondays and is due Fridays. I will go over answers on Fridays with the students in class that bring it. If they do not they will most likely spend Friday's recess working on the concepts covered in that week's packet.

This year I am encouraging students to take home their math work (Problem Set) that we worked on in class that day. That way you can see what we are going over. It may be just what you need to understand the method we are using! IF ever you are confused on a topic please ask. Also, here is a link that will direct you to the district page for math resources for parents. I would be happy to show you how to get to the videos that show how to do the homework . http://www.fusd1.org/Domain/1506. Also, keep an eye out for a paper called Math News. I will try to send one home for each topic.

Overall, PLEASE do not allow homework to be a negative point of conversation at home! I want your time with your student to be enjoyable. If I can help in anyway with homework please let me know. Email me! I try to check emails each night (when/if my son sleeps hahaha) --- rfisk@fusd1.org

Open House- is tomorrow! 5-6:30 Please join us in the gym at 5 and then to our classroom!

Supplies- WOW we are so lucky to have so many supportive families. THANK YOU for all the donations!
