Week of April 2nd

Hello!

We are working hard this week as we finish up our Animal Adaptation Unit. Students are writing a "Create Your Own Adventure" narrative using facts about their chosen animal they researched before Spring Break.

Students are also working on adding and subtracting fractions!

***NEXT WEEK- we will take the AzMerit Standardized State Test on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week. Please make sure your student gets a good night of rest and they eat breakfast so they are alert and ready to show off all they know! It is also important that students are on time and at school!
******SNACKS: I would love to hand out snack throughout the days as we test. Thank you to the families who donated snacks this week. We could use more! For testing week would love non-perishable snacks & even items such as string cheese and juice boxes!

Thank you!!

SCIENCE FAIR--- Please come check out your student's science fair project this week. Family night will take place THIS Wednesday at 5pm in the gym.

Parent volunteer--- Our classroom library is a bit messy. It would be a huge help if a parent or two could come in and help us organize it. Please contact Mrs. Fisk at rfisk@fusd1.org or by sending a note if you are interested in helping.

Looking ahead...

Here are some highlights from our upcoming week:

Math- We are ending our geometry unit. We will start fractions!! PLEASE look for items at home that connect to fractions to send in for our fraction investigation day. Please send items by Friday.

ELA- Students will complete research projects about an Arizona animal and it's defense mechanisms... Ask them what a defense mechanism is!

Week of Feb. 12

Hello! Happy Random Acts of Kindness Week! Below is a photo of the themes for each day. Our wonderful PTO has challenged us to dress up each day and spread kindness throughout the week.

For Valentines Day, we will have a little bit of time in class to hand out kind notes and treats at the end of our day. I encourage students to hand out items other than candy if possible! :) Pencils are always handy!

Science Fair:

This week we are completing projects. We are doing as many projects as we can in class. Please make sure your student shared the materials they needed to bring from home. A few projects must be done outside the classroom. This information has already been sent home.

Once the experiments are complete, students can finish typing their sections and assemble their boards. These too can be done in class! Please send in boards ASAP. We also sell boards at school for $5.

Projects must be complete by Feb. 23

Box Tops For Education- Please send in those Box Tops! Our class won last round and would love to win again! More importantly, each Box Top helps raise funds for our school.

Tax Credits - Please consider Marshall as you complete your taxes this year. Our class depends on tax donations for field trips, Magnet Monday and more!... "Marshall's Magnet Monday classes and extracurricular programs, like Suzuki violin, are supported by your generous tax credit contributions to our school. In the coming weeks, we hope you'll choose to help us to sustain our one of a kind magnet programs, extracurricular activities and field-trips for another year."- Mr. Coe

2018

We are back in the swing of things!

Last week we started a unit about Transportation Engineers. Students read about maglev trains and the Engineering Design Process. We investigated the properties of magnets  Maglev Trains use. Students ended the week putting their knowledge to the test as they worked in teams to build mini maglev train systems! This week, students fine-tuned their designs and reflected on how they worked. Please watch the video below of one team's design. I will try to post more photos next post.

We are wrapping up our engineering unit this week and starting a unit on Erosion! We will be doing a few activities with candy that help us to understand different types of rocks. Please let me know if you would like to help with these activities and/or if you have any problems with your student eating the final product :) .

Science Fair- We will begin work on the Science Fair next week. More info to come!

Math- We are wrapping up division and multiplication. Please take time to look over your student's math homework and support them with review as we end this unit. We will be moving on to fractions!

MLK Day- No school on Monday, January 15th for Martin Luther King Day.
