Week of Aug. 29

Thank you to those of you who have logged on to read the blog!

Magnet Monday Packets- Please return magnet Monday choices by this Friday! They must be signed by an adult.

*ATTENTION*- A few students have started playing a game called "The Eraser Challenge"-- This game is not safe and can leave burns on students skin. The game has to do with seeing who can rub an eraser on their skin for the longest. The school nurse has started to see many students for this.We are doing are best to watch for the "game" but please talk to your student about the danger and issues with playing it. Students will be sent home with a red slip and/or sent to Mr. Coe for further consequences.

Homework- This week's focus is spelling and decimal review. I try to give all students time each day to finish their homework... Hopefully not much is having to come home!

Thanks for reading,

Week of Aug. 22

Hello!
Thank you for logging on and reading the Blog! It is my goal to have it up by each Monday (Tuesday at the latest) each week! This is my first/main form of communication with you instead of sending home paper newsletters. If you could log on weekly and comment with your student's name in the comments section each time you read it that would really help me to see who is receiving all this important updates!

*First off I would like everyone to know our Specials Schedule so that you can plan accordingly (for example- students wear tennis shoes on P.E. day)

Library  10:40-11:10 (BOOKS DUE THIS DAY)

*Homework
As many of you know, homework is not a priority to me. Instead, you spending time with your student each evening IS... There is a great deal of research out "there" to support that quality time in evenings is more helpful in student achievement than homework. Many families enjoy working on a bit of weekly homework and that is why I do provide a small packet each week. Often times parents are really able to help teach a concept through working with your student.

What to expect- A homework packet will be sent home on Mondays and is due Fridays. I will go over answers on Fridays with the students in class that bring it. If they do not they will most likely spend Friday's recess working on the concepts covered in that week's packet.

This year I am encouraging students to take home their math work (Problem Set) that we worked on in class that day. That way you can see what we are going over. It may be just what you need to understand the method we are using! IF ever you are confused on a topic please ask. Also, here is a link that will direct you to the district page for math resources for parents. I would be happy to show you how to get to the videos that show how to do the homework . http://www.fusd1.org/Domain/1506. Also, keep an eye out for a paper called Math News. I will try to send one home for each topic.

Overall, PLEASE do not allow homework to be a negative point of conversation at home! I want your time with your student to be enjoyable. If I can help in anyway with homework please let me know. Email me! I try to check emails each night (when/if my son sleeps hahaha) --- rfisk@fusd1.org

Open House- is tomorrow! 5-6:30 Please join us in the gym at 5 and then to our classroom!

Supplies- WOW we are so lucky to have so many supportive families. THANK YOU for all the donations!
